Battery life and laptop battery timings are two irritating things while using laptops. I have found that alkaline batteries last longer as compared to nickel-cadmium batteries. The reason is that the alkaline batteries do not suffer memory effects. Having said that, now I know you would like to know about the recharging capability of alkaline batteries.

Ironically speaking, the highly priced alkaline batteries or random access memory (RAM) batteries are not considered highly in technical reports. From some trade magazine list, I have found that they are rechargeable for only 25 to 30 times at most. In response to the high current demands, the voltage supplied to the alkaline laptop batteries drop low. Therefore, they may not be perfect for high-drain applications like digital cameras.

In my view most of the criticism faced by alkaline batteries comes from the people who actually do not deal with these batteries. They unusually term these batteries as ‘soft’ batteries. In my opinion, they can be considered as good alternatives of nickel-cadmium batteries, in term of their recharging capability. Protecting Against AdWare

If there is one type of malware that really gets my back up, it’s adware. I can live with getting virus from time to time that doesn’t do much and I can even live with getting spammed from various individuals thinking I will fall for a fishing attack but adware? please. The thing that annoys me the most about it is that in some cases, the companies behind the wares that manipulate your search results or divert your to certain websites or even pop up ads on your computer actually believe they’re doing you a favour by showing you their offers? Seriously. I mean, viruses that do damage, I can in some way understand. They serve a purpose as destructive as that may be. But adware? It’s just annoying. Luckily, most of the antivirus software out there these days, particularly the offerings from the major brands, do a good job at stopping these websites placing these applications on your computer and also do a great job of finding and locating adware if you’ve already been infected. I wouldn’t try removing adware without a scanner though. A trojan or a virus you can often manually remove but when it comes to adware, unless you know your computer registry inside out, you’ll be in for a long night!

Saving Your Favorites

When you are ready to come back, you are just a click away. There are some tips that you can use to get the most out of your Favorites.

To see your current list of Favorites, just click on the Favorites button on your browser. If you would like to add a site to your Favorites list, simply right-click anywhere on the page you would like to save and choose the Add to Favorites option from the menu. If you want to save the page in a particular folder, all you have to do is use the Create In option and choose a folder. Select New Folder if you want to store the page in a new place. Click OK and you are done. It is that simple, now you can return to the current web page again and again just by clicking on the website’s name in your Favorites list.

Phishing – Hook, Line and Sinker

Everyone has heard of fishing. You throw in a line, and catch a fish. A little time, a little effort, and it can result in a great reward. But not everyone has heard of phishing.

Phishing is when a website is not a legitimate website – and you can unknowingly enter personal details into it, giving the criminals everything they need to empty your bank accounts or steal your identity.

This can happen when you receive an email stating that your bank has ‘lost your personal records, and if you log onto the link below they’ll be sure to update them for you’. So you click on the link in the email, and are taken to a rather convincing website that looks almost identical to your regular bank/credit union/Paypal account/credit card website. You enter your account number, PIN, password and date of birth – and the criminal has everything they need as they obtain these details from you.

The simplest way to avoid this kind of phishing attempt is to ignore any emails purporting to be from financial institutions etc, and always log onto a website from the browser.

Of course, spyware/anit-virus software is also great for avoiding these types of attacks, but more about them later.

Downloading MP3’s

Do you download music from Limewire a Peer-to-Peer file sharing website?  Apart from being able to download the MP3 music files of your choice, you also have to share some of your own MP3’s so that other members may access and upload tracks from them.

It is vital that you choose a separate individual folder in which to download your Limewire MP3 music tracks.  Never use My Documents as a place to store your MP3 downloads because to do so, you place every document within My Documents at risk of being downloaded also.  If you have personal information files in My Documents, I am sure you would like to keep them private.
